What Makes McHenry Unique?

  • The Riverwalk - is almost one mile long and runs from the Route 120 Boone Creek Bridge to Weber?s Park. The path is to run along the South bank of Boone Creek east to the Riverwalk Place Townhome development. A new pedestrian bridge was installed that would connect the South bank of the creek to Riverside Drive.
  • First Public Library - 1936 initiated by the Mothers Club and first located in what is now known as McHenry High School East Campus.
  • First Hospital - 1956 located south of Boone Creek on Green Street spearheaded by beloved physician Dr. Lee Gladstone.
  • First Church - 1837, Baptist organized by Reverend Joel E. Wheeler.
  • "Winter Wonderland Ball" - Annual Dinner Dance that features a nine-piece orchestra and recognizes significant contributions made by individuals to the community.
  • Fiesta Days - held in July and begins with Teen Night, Big Wheels Races, Big Band Night, and a Food Festival. End ends with a parade followed by the Jaycees' Pig Roast. In between is a Plywood Boat Challenge, Car Show, River Run, Boat Show, Family Faith Nite, amusement rides, bingo, Children's Night, Sidewalk Sales, Arts & Crafts in the Park.
