Johnsburg, Illinois is a picturesque community bordered to the east by Fox River, and located at the gateway to Northern Illinois' acclaimed Chain of Lakes recreational area. The village retains much of its original character and charm due to careful planning. Architectural landmarks have been preserved and are complimented by new neighbors. The downtown district is preparing for thoughtful redevelopment. Vast areas of open space have been protected throughout the community, and native vegetation and wildlife are abundant. The village covers and area of 6.1 square miles and has a population of 6,494 est.

What Makes Johnsburg Unique?
- Weingart Road Sedge Meadow Nature Preserve - is located on a peninsula extending into the southwestern corner of Pistakee Lake, one of the Chain O' Lakes through which the Fox River flows. Weingart Road Sedge Meadow is dominated to a large extent by a high-quality sedge meadow community. Dominant plants of this community include tussock sedge, blue joint grass and marsh shield fern. Other common associates include water knotweed, tall swamp marigold, bog bedstraw and spotted Joe Pye weed. A few acres of high quality marsh also occur with associates of this community including common bur reed, common cattail and sweet flag.
- ?9-11 Remembrance in Johnsburg? - This annual, passive display of the ?Circle of American Flags? and the evening ?Candlelight Remembrance Service? (starting at 7:30pm) will Always be held on whatever day the 11th of September falls upon. As for the last several years, the site will be on the open green area between the Johnsburg Public Library and the First Midwest Bank, directly across from the Unit #2, Johnsburg Fire Department Building.
- The Johnsburg Community Club, Inc. - is a Not for Profit organization.
They support civic and community functions for Johnsburg and the surrounding communities. Their facilities include a 2,450 sq.ft. hall for rent with a kitchen available as well as a 1,850 sq. ft. bar.
- Memorial Day Parade and Ceremonies - One of the primary goals is being able to help educate the younger generation in the ?true? meaning of this holiday. At the conclusion of these ceremonies there is a Community Picnic which is sponsored by a large part of the village civic and public organizations ? a true community event.
